Is money worth the chase?

This was the question I posed at the end of my previous blog - Is money really worth the chase?   Didn't quite have the answer then but I... still don't quite have it right na lol, but I think I might be getting there.

So what happened?..
It all happened while I was actually watching another episode of Khumbul'ekhaya.

*For those of you who don't know what Khumbul'Ekhaya is, it is a show about reuniting people with their long lost family.

So while watching Khumbul'Ekhaya I saw this 23 year old girl, lets call her Lerato get reunited with her father who left her when she was only 3.. Right, so it wasn't seeing her journey from when she pled for her long lost parents to reach out to her to watching her being reunited with the  family she longed for her entire life, no. It was actually what she said when she found them that actually cut deep into my heart and mind and actually made me take note of one the ' simplest ' things that we somehow take for granted. It was what she said while overcome with happiness, filled with tears of joy as she thanked her new found grandmother for accepting her and welcoming her with open arms into her home. She said that for the 1st time in her life she felt like she now had a sense of identity and finally felt a sense of belonging...

So now, having being raised by both parents I do realise that I do comment from a point of ignorance on this subject, however I have never actually realised what having an ' identity ' really entailed. I thought identity was about the person you chose to be and who you chose to associate with. But I realise now that it actually goes deeper than that, way deeper.

Lerato's story and many others on Khumbul'Ekhaya  made me realise how the ' simplest ' things that we often take for granted play such an important role in completing the overal product that the world referes to as ' adult ' that is, the human being that is fully prepared and should be ready to take on the world... And if you don't know who brought you into this world then tough, you need to get over it and move on... This is what I too actually thought.

But I realise now, the importance of knowing the identity of the two chemicals that reacted to produce the product that we refer to as YOU because it is the begining knowing who you are and gives you sense of belonging.

Having realised this I now have a new respect and appreciation for the work that the Khumbul'Ekhaya team does and I hope that they will be able to continue this work for generations to come.

Howevere like I stated in the beginning, I still don't know whether or not money is worth chasing but I realise now that there are other things worth searching for which are way more important and valuable than money. And that I cannot let something as useless as money determine how I will live my life.
